Our muscles have memory. That’s why sometimes we can feel better and then it goes right back to hurting in that same spot or that tension was relieved but now it’s back.
When your body is accustomed to the pain and tension that carry and you introduce massage on a regular basis you are now re-educating your muscles to let go of that tension, break pain cycles which are happening inside the trigger points (also known as knots) and now your muscles have new memories, ones of healing and relief. All you have to do is continue treating them so that, that will be their new normal – only getting better.
I like to think of it like this, every day we do certain activities. Some take a toll on us more than others. Whether it’s our hobbies, sports, repetitive motions with our hands or shoulders, or just driving; our bodies endure so much. We are made that way, it makes us stronger. But to have strong bodies we need more than endurance, we need rest, we need healing, we need to get rid of the toxins that build up. Massage is a way to nurture and take care of yourself in a way that no one can do for you. Self care and self love.
